Why I Started This Blog

I decided to start a blog to document the challenges and triumphs of staying stylish while sporting a bump. Being pregnant, women are expected to look plain and dull. I went to visit my Grandmother one day wearing a short dress and her reaction said it all. She looked at me with a surprise look and said, "You're pregnant, pregnant people are not suppose to look sexy!" Well grandma I beg to differ! The problem is the fashion worlds seems to agree with grandma. Very few really understand and offer solutions.

The explosion of pregnant celebrities proudly sporting a bump such as Angelina Jolie, Jessica Alba and Halle Berry just to name a few, created a new trend in fashion. It paved the way for pregnant moms to look yummy as they can be. The problem is, how do you get the look without breaking the bank. These women can look glamorous because they could afford to. If you go to a specialty store that offers maternity clothing, you'd have to pay a premium.

This is the challenge that I am more than willing to tackle. So I say, bring it on Grandma!

The Basics

THE T-SHIRT DRESS

I love the T-shirt dress. It's casual, comfortable but also very chic. The left one is from Banana Republic and it's selling for $60. I found a similar one from Forever 21 for $19.99. This is perfect for those days where you want to look put together but not spend a lot of effort. This is very versatile as you can still rock this dress even post pregnancy. It hugs the right curves and shows off the belly, not to mention very comfortable.

THE MAXI DRESS

A maxi dress is a floor or ankle length informal dress. Maxi dresses are formfitting at the top and loose flowing at the bottom, cut to flow over the body. They are usually made out of cotton or polyester and come in a variety of necklines, colors and patterns. This is according to Wikipedia. To me a maxi dress is a pregnant lady's BFF. They are super stylish and very sexy.

Here are my cheap finds so far of this super cool style. The first one is from Sirens for $12 and the second one is from Joe Fresh for $19.

THE LITTLE BLACK DRESS

This is a staple piece in any woman's wardrobe pregnant or not. Simply put the little black dress is something that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. When looking for this type of dress in the early stage of your pregnancy, make sure that it's something that will allow flexibility around the belly area.

Here's my cheaper version of the little black dress from H&M for $29

BALLET SHOES

If you want to add grace, class and style to any outfit, make sure you have a couple pair of these comfortable shoes. A wonderful alternative to high heels and pumps, these shoes compliment any outfit, from a little black dress to a casual denim skirt and shorts. What's so amazing is now they come in all colors, styles, and designs, so you can find your perfect pair and fulfill your dream of becoming a ballerina. And let's face it, these will be your new BFF's once the cankles strike. I found a beige pair from Joe Fresh for $12 and  a pair of black satin ones from Payless for $16.
